Tissue Web Break Marking System

Application

An unexpected web break in a jumbo roll of tissue paper can be very costly and dangerous during downstream processing.  Marking the reel manually on the Tissue Machine is dangerous and in some cases impossible.  RYECO has configured a special system that is designed to automatically mark every web break in a reel of tissue coming from the Tissue Machine.  The mark is visible to all operating personnel as a ring of color on the end of the reel.  The Mark will also appear several hundred feet prior to the web break giving the downstream operator plenty of time to take appropriate actions.

Marked Tissue Samples

The Mark is created automatically after the sheet is restored on the Tissue Machine.  As a break in the web approaches on the converting equipment (Winder, slitter) a mark is visible along the edge of the web for the operator to take appropriate action.

Customer Benefits

Ø  Automatic Marking is more accurate and reliable than manual marking.

Ø  Increased Operator safety at the reel of the Tissue Machine.

Ø  Increased Operator safety at the converting operation.

Ø  Improved efficiency on the converting equipment due to reduction of downtime from breaks.

The System

The system consists of both RYECO’s proven tissue marking technology and RYECO’s highly successful web break detection sensor.  The marking location can be on either side of the reel or both sides.  In cases where the reel is slit, forming two parent rolls, the marker can mark the center prior to slitting, leaving a mark on both of the slit rolls.  The markers incorporate a break detector and programming logic to allow for automatic marking after every web break, leaving the operator free to perform other important duties.

Configurations

Configuration A: When the roll is slit on the Tissue Machine and the mark can appear on either side of the downstream process, the sytem hardware will consist of:

-          (1) Operator Station with mini-controller

-          (1) Ink Station

-          (1) Lane Marking Module mounted on the slitter base

-          (1) Break Detection Sensor with cable and mounting coupler

Configuration B: When the roll is not slit and the mark always appears on the operating  side of the downstream process, the system hardware will consist of:

-          (1) Operator Station with mini-controller

-          (1) Ink Station

-          (1) Jawless Edge Marking module

-          (1) Edge Tracking Module

-          (1) Actuator Station

-          (1) Break Detection Sensor with cable and mounting coupler

Configuration C: When the roll is slit and the mark must appear on the operating side of the converting process.  The hardware consists of;

-          (1) Operator Station with mini-controller

-          (1) Ink Station

-          (1) Jawless Edge Marking module

-          (1) Edge Tracking Module

-          (1) Actuator Station

-          (1) Lane Marking Module mounted on the slitter base

-          (1) Break Detection Sensor with cable and mounting coupler

Each system is a standard one-color marking system, though three color systems are optionally available.  All sensors are air-purged and rated to handle the Tissue Mill environment.
